Hi,
i use FrichatX with a bridge for joomla and phpbb.
The chat works really good. In joomla it looks good, too. But in phpbb the online chat looks really nasty.

Try installing FreiChatX 6.0
It has tremendous CSS improvements so it may fix
your issue.
