I found the install very easy. And I can see the message window and chat window just fine. But when I try and send a private message or message to a chatroom nothing gets inserted into the DB table frei_chat.

I can see the message was accepted by my client chat window, but it seems that it's not calling the backend process to actually insert the messages.

I think it's not a DB rights issue because I can see user sessions being added to the session table just fine.

I put a debug message into server/freichat.php in the prepare_insert_msg() function, but nothing appears in the freixlog.log file. Problem is the same in chrome and firefox.

I'm no ajax/jquery expert so I'd love to have some feedback on where I can look next or if this problem is known.

freichat v10 and Joomla 3.4.0

Your server is returning a 500 internal server error for requests made by freichat.

Can you check your server error log for any errors related to freichat ?

It seems ctype was not installed and it was needed. I missed this because I was only looking in http-error.log and the 500 was not being logged there for some reason.
