enabled it only in contact section so you can see the issue

I dont know were to go to edit the css, firebug points to freichatcss.php, that points to css.php and css_rtl.php, but the css I am looking for is not there i.e. frei_tab

I found it its chatroom_css.php

I cant figure out how to fix it though when the chat is on the right

After mentioning your efforts to solve the problem , you forgot to mention the problem itself ?

basically the chatroom button was width was inherited from my template css, which made it take up half the screen,

so I just went to chatroom_css.php and removed the width: inherited! on line 205

also moved the chat room button down a little bit to make it fit my template (lines 177 and 204)

this was for the left chatroom

So is the problem solved ? and are there any other problems ?

there is one but it has nothing to do with css, basically status change wont work, it doesnt let me switch from available, to busy, to invisible to offline

In chrome , open the console , open the network tab .

Now , when you change status , you will see there is a request sent to the server ,
Open that request and check the response of the request , and see if you get any errors
