Tried the search to find threads about this, but apparently there are none. Just thought I'd ask around if anyone has had this problem and solved it somehow. All I can tell you is that when I have Freichat on my site with JJShoutbox (a Joomla 2.5 module), the shoutbox stops working in that while you can type in it, and click the submit input, nothing gets submitted. JJShoutbox isn't ajax.

I get no javascript errors in the Chrome developer console, so I'm not sure it's that. I know a fair bit about PHP, but I'm at a bit of a loss here. Obviously it's got something to do with the page not running the JJShoutbox form submit correctly, but I'm seriously not sure how to fix it.

The chat is awesome, and a definite keeper for my site, but sometimes you just want to throw a line in a shoutbox instead. I've not switched to other shoutbox modules yet to see if they work, as I'd first rather want to see if there's a solution to this (ton of CSS on the shoutbox and so on, rather not build a new appearance for a new module if this can be fixed.)

Try setting remove jquery conflicts to yes in freichat backend -> client side

Setting remove jQuery conflicts both on and off was one of the first things I tried, but to no avail. I also tried placing the chat module in different positions on the site. For some reason, when freichat is enabled on the site, the jjshoutbox appears to work (you can type in it, you can click the submit button, the page does a load as it usually does with jjshoutbox since it's not ajax), but no message is saved in the jjshoutbox, so it doesn't run the submit protocol properly. I also disabled (and enabled again) the jQuery animations, but that didn't help.

One thing I noticed, by the way. When I set "Play sound on new message" to "No", the chat would play the sound. When I set it to "Yes", there would be no sound. So it seems that's backwards.

Anyways, I'll have to see whether I want the chat or the shoutbox since I don't seem to be able to have both, whether I can find another shoutbox that will work with freichat, and whether it's worth it for me to try and figure out if I can fix/modify the code of the shoutbox so that it'll work when the chat is on. I wasn't very hopeful there'd be a solution, seeing as though the author of the jjshoutbox himself had given up with this issue (the link in my OP.)
